The Hakama Skirt reflects Aviva Jifei Xue’s interest in volume and garments that move freely around the body. Its generous cut creates the appearance of a full skirt, with the practicality and ease of a trouser-influenced construction.
This version is made from yarn-dyed striped cotton shirting with a softly wrinkled finish. The light fabric allows the volume to move easily and keeps the full-length shape comfortable through warmer weather.
An elasticated back waistband provides flexibility, with horn buttons adding a natural finish. The familiar shirting cloth gives the more sculptural silhouette an approachable, everyday quality.

ABOUT Aviva Jifei Xue
Aviva Jifei Xue, a New York-based designer, launched her eponymous label in 2020, drawing deeply from her upbringing between Japan and China. A graduate of Parsons’ fashion design program in 2017, where she specialized in menswear, Xue’s work blends heritage with materiality. Natural fibres—hemp, wool, linen, and silk—are central to her collections, often naturally dyed and adorned with ceramic buttons as a nod to tradition. Her designs emphasize craft and old-world production techniques, utilising antique fabrics and custom-made textiles sourced from generational mills in Japan, resulting in pieces that celebrate timeless craftsmanship.

Online Returns
- Eligible items may be returned for exchange or store credit within 14 days of purchase.
- Returned products must be unused, unwashed, in “as new” condition with all original tags, labelling and packaging intact. Returns are accepted at the discretion of our staff.
- Socks, underwear and earrings may not be returned for hygiene reasons.
Sale Returns
