Cameron Studio

Cameron Studio

Cameron Studio have so far released two collections that exemplify their focus on quality materials and refrained design practices in the jewellery space. The repetition of minimalist design elements and textures, from the product right down to the packaging and campaign imagery, paints a consistent picture of restraint and direction that flows through to the fit, feel, and timelessness of each piece. We caught up for a chat with Jackson, one half of the Melbourne based duo.

on the Cameron Studio story ...
Cameron Studio is a lifestyle jewellery brand, refined and handmade in Australia. Through the medium of jewellery, we reflect on our own personal tastes in fashion and create pieces for likeminded individuals.

on major influences and inspirations ...
We draw influence from a wide field. Fashion has been a major influence in both of our lives and we always assess the wearability of a piece when we include it in a collection, but in terms of influences on the designs themselves, we take pretty major inspiration from architecture, skating and youth culture.

on staying true ...
We were pretty adamant when we started the brand that the product had to stand on its own and be something we'd be proud to put our name to. We make to order, we make locally in Australia, we stamp each piece by hand, and all of our pieces are solid silver or gold, we don't plate anything. But at the same time, we aren't artisanal silversmiths running around in aprons. The product integrity is there and will always be there, but we don't focus on communicating that to people. We want people to buy our product because they like the way it looks and because they identify with our brand. The fact that the product possesses a certain timelessness, and the fact that it will last years and years, are almost added bonuses for people after the fact.

on current inspiration ...
We're still at a stage as a brand where we're quite young. A lot of people are still seeing our product and discovering Cameron Studio for the first time. The feedback that we get from those people is really exciting to us and a big vindicator that we're on the right track. In terms of other brands, we've always loved Our Legacy and worked in retail shops that stocked the brand for a really long time. It always feels like those guys aren't really paying any attention to what anyone else is doing and just blazing their own trail. Before starting Cameron Studio, we honestly couldn't find a jewellery brand that we would've worn personally and so since then, we've been trying to channel that spirit and just look to ourselves for inspiration.

on the current playlist ...
To save us from fighting in the studio, we normally just play Late Night Tales mixes, which are good at keeping the peace and easy listening. Other than that, we're both going to see Olafur Arnalds later this year - he's probably as inspiring to us both as anybody else making music right now.
